Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side shows St.Michael, dressed and winged silver (= white) and armed by golden (= yellow) clad armour. He is killing a black dragon by a red lance, which is topped by a cross. The sinister side shows three blue bars in a silver (=white) field.
Meaning:
According to source the arms are combining elements of the former municipalities of Waldniel and Amern. St. Michael is representing Waldniel. He is patron saint of the local parish church. The bars are taken from the 1958 version of the arms of Amern; originally based upon the arms of Heinrich vom Ambere (1274).
