The ratio is 3:5. It is a white flag having a blue bordure. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess wavy, above divided per pale. Above right in a blue field is a golden (= yellow) trident. Above left in a silver (= white) field are three silhouettes of black cranes ordered more or less vertically. Below in a golden (= yellow) field is a red, rampant griffin, armed golden (=yellow) and holding a silver (= white) anchor in his claws.
Meaning:
The griffin is symbolizing that the municipality belongs to Westpomerania. The anchor is symbolizing shipping and fishery in the past. The wavy line and the trident are symbolizing the location on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Finally the cranes are symbolizing the national park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft being shelter and sanctuary for many migrant birds.

The coat of arms was approved by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania on 16 March 1994, published in the roll of arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania as no. 0016. In local Hauptsatzung/, version 1 January 2002 no flag is mentioned.
