The ratio is 3:5. It is a horizontal red over yellow over red flag with the coat of arms in the centre of the flag. The ratio between the stripes is 1:3:1. The flag was granted on 16 December 1969.

The ratio is 5:2. It is a vertical red-yellow-red banner with the coat of arms shifted to the top. The ratio between the stripes is 1:3:1.

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield are three golden (=yellow) short swords, so called "sahs", pointing to the top edge above a golden (=yellow) mountain with three peaks. The Saxons derive their name from that type of sword. The shield is a symbol of the name of the city, which means "mountain of the Saxons".

Flag and banner were approved by Regierungspräsident Münster on 16 December 1969, the coat of arms already on 16 january 1939 by Oberpräsident of Westphalia.
