Description of blade:
The blade of BRC is repeating the pattern of the first flag(1880) rotated 90° and the white edges cut away. The star however kept pointing upwards.
Special thanks to Udo Korgitzsch, a former chairman of BRC and later a functionary in the Berlin Landesruderverband. Without his invaluable help, the contribution about BRC and Berlin rowing clubs as a whole would not have been possible.
Brief history: BRC was established by former members of BRV von 1876. They were lead by Georg W. Büxenstein, a member of the free mason’s lodge “Roter Stern”(=red star). Some say that this was the reason for implementing a red star in the centre of flag. Others claim however, that the star wasn’t shaped like a hexagram, as it is obviously today. The secession occurred due to personal differences to the board of BRV von 1876.
The first flag of BRC had no canton and was used until 1 April 1883.
This small club was established in 1882 and unified with BRC on 1 April 1883. RC "Nettie" used a chequered flag consisting of 16 rectangles in greenish blue and white.
Since than BRC used a flag with a chequered canton consisting of nine rectangles in greenish blue and white. The canton of that flag was a simplified version of that one from “Nettie”.
In the 70ies of the 20th century Berliner-Ruder Verein von 1876(BRV) ran out of members. So this club merged with BRC in August 1972, but indeed it was simply overtaken.
Giving respect to the fact, that BRV was the older club, the new name was at first: Berliner Ruder-Club- Vereinigung von BRC und BRV v.1876” (see RA 77). Later the amendment was taken away.
Since than the BRC used the current flag.
Name: Berliner Ruder-Club “Armin”

Established: 3 Sepember 1883
Flag of Berliner Ruder-Club “Armin”(1883-1884):
Berliner Ruder-Club “Proteus” and Berliner Ruder-Club “Nelson” merged forming the new club "Armin".“Armin” joined the BRC in 1884. This had however no influence to the flag of BRC. It remained the same.
Name:Berliner Ruder-Verein von 1876 e.V.
Located in: Berlin
Established: 1 September 1876
Description of flag(1879-1883):
It is a 10-stripes flag with alternating horizontal red and white stripes starting with a white one. The canton is a white square divided by a blue saltire with red inscrisptions “B”(top), “R”(hoist), “V”(fly) and “76”(bottom).
Description of flag (1883-1972):
It is a 9-stripes flag with alternating horizontal blue and white stripes starting with a blue one. The canton was an image of the first flag of the club. We might say, the flag went back to its roots.
Berliner Ruder-Verein von 1876 aspirated some minor rowing clubs at the end of the 19th century: Those were:
Berliner Ruder-Gesellschaft “Borussia”, established in September 1877. The club joined BRV on 15 February 1882.
Description of flag:
It was a 10-stripes flag with alternating horizontal black and white stripes starting with a black one. The canton was a white square divided by a black saltire with black capitals “B”(hoist), “R”(top), “G”(fly) and “B”(bottom). Black and white had been the traditional Prussian colours and “Borussia” means “Prussia”.
Ruder-Club “Neptun”, established in August 1877. The club joined BRV on 8 August 1883.
Description of flag:
It is a white flag divided by a black cotised cross. In the centre of flag is a white roundel surmounted by a black annulet with a black rampant bear in its centre. The same as in the coat of arms of Berlin. The canton is a black over white over blue horizontal tricolour.
Ruder-Club “Spree” had a real short life. It was established on 11 January 1887 and its members all joined BRV on 22 April 1887.
Description of flag:
It is a 9-stripes flag with alternating horizontal black and white stripes starting with a black one. In the white canton is a red 5-point star.
