The rowing club at the end of the world. In Sønderborg, going north from the marina, leaving the bustle of the pleasure craft piers behind, passing the fishermen's harbour where men in blue overalls unload their catches, continuing past the warehouses which only come alive every now and again when a ship arrives to be loaded or unloaded, further beyond the shipping lines offices where nearly all activity is hidden behind reflecting windows and company logos, well outside the city beyond even the waterfront industry where ships moor only to have machines fill or empty their hulls through giant pipes, out there to the north, if you continue along the water's edge, you come to the End of the World (Verdens Ende). On this stretch of waterline are the buildings of water-related sports, like the divers club, the kayak club, and Sønderborg Roklub. As far as I can decipher my own notes, they have existed since 1924, and that's all I know about them, except that they have a white burgee with the Schleswig lions in red.

Høruphav Ro- og Kayakklub

White, dark blue along the free edges, middle blue 2 Schleswig lions, and the letters 'HRK', shaped to fit the form of the burgee.
Peter Hans van den Muijzenberg, 27 August 2001

Faaborg Roklub

White with a blue offset border and a blue pentagram (intended to represent a star).

Fredericia Roklub

Hoistwise stripes of blue-white-blue-white-blue. One of the rowers from Fredericia I met was so proud of those colours, he had a cap with those stripes as well. Then again, it may be that the local soccer club uses the same colours. Since I've never been to Fredericia I can't even rule out that they have a flag there that's striped blue and white.

Nordschleswigscher Ruderverband

The Nordschleswigscher Ruderverband (NRV/Danish NRK) has only 6 members. One of them has, as far as I know, only a logo, the others have flags. The NRV is member of the DFfR (Danish Rowing Association) and the members of the NRV are rowing clubs of the German minority in Denmark. Some clubs have been established very early, only a few years after Nordschleswig was ceded by Germany to Denmark. The first one was probably Germania Sonderburg. The NRV however was established on 5th January 1952.

The flag of Nordschleswigscher Ruderverband is a dark blue (FIAV-Code B++) over yellow bicolour pennant. In the upper hoist is a yellow inscription "NRV". The colours are those of the Duchy of Schleswig. There is a garland of white oak leaves superimposed by two red oars. The garland is shifted to the hoist. The oak is the tree of the Germans while the red colour of the oars belongs to Denmark.
