Overview

The parish of Daniel Córdova Toral is part of Gualaceo canton (Azuay province). Until 5 February 1937, the parish was named El Oriente. The parish lost a significant part of its territory after the establishment of the parishes of Mariano Moreno (1943) and Luis Cordero Vega (1995).
The parish is named for a benefactor of public education, Daniel Córdova Toral (1886-1958), who was Mayor of Cuneca, Governor of Azuay, Representative and Senator, and Minister of Education.
