Translation of the text from El Diario

"The flag of Jama - Author: Architect Iván Meza Sánchez.
For the design of the flag of the Canton of Jama, the working
methodology was applied to the typical rectangular shape. Various
possibilities of geometric design have been analyzed and the
colours were selected the same way. Finally, historic, social and
physic aspects of the canton were taken into acount.
Colours: The colours selected for the flag are: terracotta, white
and Jama.
Terracotta: In the terracotta colour are merged the intense red
of the blood flowing into our veins, the dark brown of the
generous soil where we were born. It is the perfect symbiosis of
the magnificent essence that keeps with ardor the breath of life
conferred by the Supreme Being with the humus which grows and
increases to feed the green mantle that offers us its precious
fruits. The terracotta colour also includes yellow, the source of
light of the gods of our ancestors, which brings us warmth and
life every morning, the positive energy that forces us to be
always moving forward; yellow represents the resource and
potential production of Jama. The terracotta colour represents
also the terracotta used by our ancestors to mould their
illusions, legends and historical figures, as the lineage of a
people being an important milestone in the American history.
White: With safety, one of the factors that had allowed Jama to
constitute a place of work and progress and also of unity and
social fraternity, white represents the human quality of the
inhabitants. They have been traditionally characterized by their
love for their land, their deep respect for environment, their
balanced aspiration to action, their honesty and sincerity.
Jama: The Jama colour isthe essence extracted by our ancestors
from the heart of jade and which, together with the terracotta
colours, has alwys been present in their elegant and singular
hairdressings and clothes, therefore representing the past. The
Jama colour also represents this eternal and infinite horizon
where the celeste transparency of the sky above us merges with
the marine green toa distance not reachable by our eyes, from
which safely comes the fiercy traveller in love with the generous
nature alwyas reigning over the territory of Jama [...] Green
also represents future, permanently hosted in our souls and
hearts [...]"
