From <www.rk.ee>: Three silver circles come from the coat of arms of the family of Hoyningen-Huene who owned the manor of Lehtse. Colors refer to the peatbogs and  peat industry.

Saksi vald and Tapa linn from Laane-Virumaa County with Lehtse vald from Jarvamaa county have formed a new municipality called Tapa vald in Laane-Virumaa county at 20 October 2005.
