The text in the ribbon reads Ittihad al-Jumhuriyya
al-'Arabiyya, 'The Union of the Arab Republics - a name
reminiscent of al-Jumhuriyya al-'Arabiyya al-Muttahida, 'The
United Arab Republic'. Apparently, this name lingered on even after
1972 when the UAR was suppressed.
The text below the ribbon reads Jumhuriyyah Misr al-'Arabiyya,
'The Arab Republic of Egypt".
