Introduction

The village of Majadas de Tiétar is one of the 21 municipalities forming the "comarca" of Campo Arañuelo, Province of Cáceres, Extremadure; in 2003, it was proclaimed an "Ecology and Biodiversity Corridor" because of the number and diversity of its birds and pinewoods; the corridor is an extension of the National Park of Monfragüe.

The "El Salvador" parish church, built in different styles was said by Madoz to keep "a wonderful painting by Tiziano showing St. Maurice leading the Theban legion to martyrdom," but the painting is no longer there.

Description

Majadas de Tiétar is preparing a municipal flag, which will include significant elements of the local context, such as a sheepfold, symbolizing the place where the flock rests for the night and after which the village was named ("majadas" means sheepfolds in Spanish), a river, representing Río Tiétar, whose fertile banks are a source of life, and a pine, the symbol of the vegetal wealth of the area.

Coat of Arms

Majadas de Tiétar already has a coat of arms, prescribed by the "Orden de 13 de enero de 2003, por la que se aprueba el Escudo Heráldico, para el Ayuntamiento de Majadas de Tiétar" (Decree of 13 January 2003, approving the heraldic shield of the municipality of Majadas de Tiétar). A small image of these arms is shown on the municipal website of Romangordo. It seems to be: "Per pale vert a sheep enclosure or argent a pine tree over three waves azure," which is probably canting for the two parts of the name of the municipality.
