Symbols of Agüimes

The flag of Agüimes, adopted on 28 January 2002 by the Municipal Council (text), is in proportions 2:3, sky blue with a yellow wheat ear slightly shifted to the hoist. The wheat stem and two leaves form an arrowhead.

According to José Manuel Erbez (Banderas y escudos de Canarias, 2007; website), the blue colour symbolizes the sky being cloudless nearly all the year round. The wheat ear emphasizes the importance of grain cultivation until the second half of the 20th century.
