The municipality of Almonaster la Real (1,809 inhabitants in 2013; 32,200 ha; municipal website) is located 100 km north of Huelva.

Symbols of Almonaster la Real

The flag and arms of Almonaster la Real, adopted on 25 September 1996 by the Municipal Council and validated on 4 November 1998 by the Royal Academy of Córdoba, are prescribed by Decree No. 4, adopted on 12 January 1999 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 16 February 2009 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 20, pp. 1,937-1,938 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: In proportions 11:18, purple, with a dark yellow stripe parallel to the hoist. in length 1/5 of the flag's length, embattled of six yellow and five purple pieces. In the middle, the local coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Shield in Spanish shape. Purpure a lion rampant or langued and armes gules, a bordure of Castile and León. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The Royal arms shown on the coat of arms allude to the emancipation of Almonaster la Real as a Royal town.
