Symbols of Posada de Valdeón

The flag and arms of Posada de Valdeón (municipal website) are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 21 December 2000 by the Municipal Council, signed on 30 March 2001 by the Mayor, and published on 27 April 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 82, p. 6,507 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag with proportions 2:3, made of three equal horizontal stripes, the outer stripes white with four red disks each and and the central stripe blue.
Coat of arms: Argent an inn [posada] gules surrounded by six bezants in chief and two in base all gules, in base waves azure and argent, chaussé vert. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.

The eight disks represent the eight villages forming the municipality: Caín, Santa Marina and the six villages once members of the Valdeón Royal Council (Los Llanos, Posada, Prada, Soto, Cordiñanes and Caldevilla).
The blue stripe on the flag and the blue waves on the arms represent river Cares, which crosses the municipality from south to north. Valdeón is named after a Celtic hydronym, eo, found in the previous names of the valley (Eione, Eone, Eigón).
