The municipality of Villamayor (aka Villamayor de Armuña; 6,457 inhabitants in 2010; 1,613 ha) is adjacent to Salamanca. The municipality is made of the town of Villamayor (3,041 inh.) and of the villages of Los Álamos (35 inh.), Los Almendros (297 inh.), Las Canteras (863 inh.), El Pajarón (34 inh.), Los Rosales (77 inh.), Las Acacias (50 inh.), Los Páramos (96 inh.), Anantapur (194 inh.) and Vega de Salamanca (120 inh.).
Villamayor has given its name to the Villamayor stone (piedra de Villamayor, website), an arenite (sandstone) made of quartz (40-70%), feldspar (10-30%) and mica (10-20%), extracted from the local quarries - six companies extract 6,000 cubic meters per year. The Villamayor stone has been used to build the historical town of Salamanca, registered in 1988 by UNESCO on the World Heritage List; the specific composition of the stone is responsible of the unique, golden shade of the town at twilight. The Villamayor Column, made of 17 sculpted pieces stacked vertically, was designed by David de la Mano, quarrymen, arts students and artists as a tribute to the Villamayor stone.

The flag of Villamayor (photo, Town Hall) is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 12 March
1998 by the Salamanca Provincial Government, signed on 7 May 1998 by the President
of the Government, and published on 27 May 1998 in the
official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 98 (text).
The flag is described
as follows:
Flag: Quadrangular, argent. In the middle is placed the municipal coat of arms, surmounted with the Royal Spanish crown closed.
The coat of arms of Villamayor is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 10
October 1997 by the Salamanca Provincial Government, signed on 22 October 1997 by the
President of the Government, and published on 5
November 1997 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 213 (text).
The coat of arms is described
as follows:
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Azure a wall or masoned sable, 2. Vert a pick, a hammer, a compass and a square all argent. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish Crown.
An older Decree states that the coat of arms of Villamayor, adopted on
7 October 1982 by the Municipal Council and validated by the Royal
Academy of History, is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 30 January
1986 by the Government of Castilla y León and published on 7 February
1986 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 12 (text). The Decree does not provide a description of the arms.
The Royal Academy of History validated the proposed coat of arms made
of "a section of a masoned wall proper", and tools recalling stone
extraction and cutting. The coat of arms shall be "Per pale, 1. Azure
a section of a wall argent masoned sable, 2. Vert a square and a
compass argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed" (Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia, 1985, 182, 3: 556).
