Flag of EDA, current and former versions - Images by Zoltán Horváth, 14 October 2013
EDA (website) is an agency of the European Union based in Brussels. It is a Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) body set up on 12 July 2004. All EU member states, except Denmark which has an opt-out of the
CFSP, take part in the agency. Norway, which is not an EU member, has been granted an opt-in to participate in the EDA programmes without voting rights.
EDA was established to support the Member States and the Council in their effort to improve European defence capabilities in the field of crisis management and to sustain the European Security and Defence Policy as it stands now and develops in the future.
EDA has a new logo, which is placed on a new flag (photo, photo). Together with the the Agency's new Communication Strategy, approved in 2011, the revamped visual identity was applied to all offline and online communication tools. The new logo and flag were approved in frame of this strategy.
The flag is white with the logo consisting of a stylized EU flag, with layers behind it in different shades of blue and green. The full name of the agency is placed next to logo.
The previous flag of EDA, once confirmed by the agency, was the EU flag with the yellow letters "EDA" placed in the middle of the circle of stars.
