Introduction

A Good Day to Die Hard is a Die Hard movie.
Eugene Ipavec, 16 December 2009

Unknown flag

A flag is seen in just a few fleeting scenes early in the movie, and I couldn't tell if it was real or not. The scene took place outside a courtroom in Moscow, and there was a political protest going on outside the courtroom. There were only two flags seen in the protesting crowd, one was the usual Russian national flag (horizontal tricolour: white, blue, red.) The second was the same, but a vertical tricolour of white, blue red. (It didn't look like someone just put a Russian flag sideways on flagpoles, as it had what looked like a 2:3 proportion to it), I think I even once saw the vertical tricolour fly from the courthouse as well!

That sounds like a high flag held horizontally. Especially the type that can be fastened to the top and bottom would make excellent protest banner-like flags, if held between two staffs instead.

The flag can be seen in this photo from a trailer; a W-B-R vertical tricolour. It looks like a fictional flag designed by the movie-makers.

Yes, I figured it might be fiction, but it's an odd reason to design a flag, as it doesn't take place in a fictional universe like Star Trek. It doesn't really serve a purpose to have it there.
