Presentation of Oz

The municipality of Oz (206 inhabitants in 2007; 1,680 ha) is located 55 km south of Grenoble, in the Alpine region of Oisans. The municipality is made of the village of Oz, located 800 m asl, of the 10 scattered hamlets of Le Roberand, Le Bessey, Sardonne, L'Île d'Oz, Le Boulangeard, Le Pontonnier, La Beurrière, La Voûte, Le Pré de l'Arche and L'Enversin, and of the mountain resort of Oz-en-Oisans .
Accordingly, the municipality is usually called Oz-en-Oisans, while its official name seems to be simply Oz.

The mountain resort of Oz-en-Oisans (website), built from scratch 1,350 m asl, is part of the complex of Les Grandes Rousses - L'Alpe d'Huez, made of the international resort of L'Alpe d'Huez and of the four, family- oriented "village resorts" of Auris-en-Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans, Villard- Reculas and Vaujany.
The Oz-en-Oisans - Vaujany sector (1,135 m - 2,800 m) has 40 ski runs (70 km) served by 22 ski lifts, while the connected Grand Domaine - Alpe d'Huez sector (1,135 m - 3,330 m) has 131 ski runs (250 km) served by 84 ski lifts. Oz-en-Oisans has also two cross-country ski runs (30 km).
Oz-en-Oisans is part of the Mountain Bike Sector of Les Grandes Rousses (16 country routes, 14 downhill routes and four downhill runs). Oz hoists every year the "Avalanche Cup" and the "Mégavalanche", the longest mountain bike downhill competition in the world (32 km); in 2010, Jérôme Clémentz and Anne-Caroline Chausson won the race in 56'02" and 1h07'40", respectively.

Flag of Oz-en-Oisans

The flag of Oz is white with the resort's logo made of a square emblem flanked on the right by the black writing "OZ / EN OISANS", "OZ" much bigger (when not used on the flag, the logo has the writing below the emblem).
The emblem of Oz is blue with two green triangles separated from the blue field by white stripes; the white stripe on the right is charged with a pink element. The ensemble undoubtedly symbolizes snowy mountains under a pure sky, but I have not been able to understand the meaning of the pink element.
