Presentation of Rochefort-sur-Nenon

The municipality of Rochefort-sur-Nenon (570 inhabitants in 2008; 1,020 ha) is located 10 km north-east of Dole.

Rochefort-sur-Nenon is the cradle of the powerful Rochefort family, although no member of the family was ever lord of the place. Guillaume de Rochefort (1433/1439-1492), Chamberlain of Burgundy and, subsequently, Chancellor of France under Kings Louis XI and Charles VIII (1483-1492), is said to have been borne in Rochefort-sur-Nenon, without evidence. He was most probably born in Pluvault, then the main domain of the family, as was his junior brother Guy de Rochefort (1447-1507), President of the Parliament of Burgundy, and, subsequently, Chancellor of France under Kings Charles VIII and Louis XII (1497-1507).

The flag of Rochefort-sur-Nenon, as seen hoisted on the town hall (October 2009), is divided blue-white by the ascending diagonal.
The colors are taken from the municipal arms, "Per fess, 1. Argent a lion passant gules, 2. Azure semy of billets or". These arms were used by the Rochefort family.
