In the first century before J.C., Julius Caesar defeated the Venetes during a naval fight in what is now the Gulf of Morbihan (but geologists do not all agree that the Gulf was already constituted at that time.)

The small island of Hoëdic (aka Hœdic; in Breton, Edig; 111 inhabitants in 2006; 208 ha), located a few miles off the coast of south Brittany, was made a municipality in 1891.

Club Nautique Hoedicais (CNH) was founded in 1964 by summer vacationers fond of sailing. To keep the club as friendly as possible and to respect the natual environment of the island, membership was restricted to 100, each member being awarded a numbered burgee.
In 1992, the clubhouse Entrepont (Steerage) was inaugurated in the decommissioned Fort of Hoëdic.
To get in closer touch with the islanders, the club set up in summer 2002 a sailing school to train the children living permanently of the island. The same year, the Trophée des Champions race moored at Hoëdic, where CNH welcomed Helen Macarthur, Loïc Peyron and Michel Desjoyaux.

The burgee of CNH is white with a black cross, whose vertical and horizontal arms are fimbriated in white and black on their left and lower side, respectively. The vertical arm of the cross thinner than the horizontal one. A stylized black ermine spot is placed in canton.

Société Nautique de Larmor-Plage (SNL, website) was the first yacht club founded in the Lorient Harbor, in 1872, as the Société Nautique et d'Instruction Navale de Lorient (SNINL). After the Second World War, the club was relocated in the municipality of Larmor-Plage, at the entrance of the harbor, close to the Kernevel fort, and took its current name.

The emblem of SNL is made of a black fouled anchor with the French and SNL flags crossed per saltire. The flag of SNL is white with an horizontally divided blue-red-blue swallow-tailed flag in canton.
A photo taken in July 2009 during the National Snipe regatta shows the flag hoisted on the boat of the Race Committee.

After the building of a modern marina in 1970, La Trinité rapidly became the Mecca of French offshore yachting. Several "Formula-One" sailboats are moored there.

Société Nautique de la Trinité-sur-Mer (SNT, website) was founded in 1879 and is currently the French yacht club with the largest membership. Its burgee is a 1:2 triangular flag, horizontally divided blue-red with two white triangles placed along the hoist.

The municipality of Le Bono (2,148 inhabitants in 2007; 596 ha) is located in the northwestern end of the Gulf of Morbihan, at the confluence between rivers Auray and Bono. Once a small port dedicated to fishing and oyster-breeding, Le Bono was established an independent municipality on 1 October 1947, seceding from Plougoumelen.
The legendary yachtsman Bernard Moitessier (1925-1994) is buried in the municipal cemetery of Le Bono.

The burgee of Société Nautique Le Bono (SNLB) is white at hoist with a black (Breton) ermine spot and the fly divided in three red, blue and green stripes separated by thinner white stripes and converging at the burgee's point (image, no original seen).
A completely different burgee is shown on the associations' directory of the regional newspaper Ouest-France. Here the burgee is white with a blue border, a green triangle along the hoist charged with an orange sailboat inscribed in a white disk, the rest of the burgee white with the orange letters "SNLB" and a black ermine spot. The advertizing posters of the "Classique du Bono" race 2011 and 2012 shows the first burgee, which must be the one actually used.
