The Bay of the Somme (Baie de Somme is the wide estuary of the river Somme into the North Sea.
The three ports in the bay are Saint-Valery, the capital of the former feudal domain of Vimeu, Le Crotoy and Le Hourdel. Shells, shellfish and squids are the main products of the bay. Fishing on foot is very common at low tide: cockles, mullets, eels and flatfishes are picked up by hand or caught with a fishgig (raccroc).
Waterfowl hunting is the other main activity in the bay of Somme. Small boats (bottes) are customized and shelters (huttes) are built in the grassy banks. Domestic or artificial ducks are used as appellants.
In the northwestern part of the bay, the ornithological reserve of Marquenterre (mer qui entre en terre, the sea entering the land) is one of the main stops of the migrating birds in Europe. Among the 420 species of birds known in Europe, 315 of them have been spotted in Marquenterre.

Club Nautique de la Baie de Somme (CNBS), based in Le Crotoy, has a burgee (image) horizontally divided blue-white-blue with the red letters "CNBS" in the white stripe.

Le Sport d'Amiens

The website of the French Rowing Federation shows a poster, dated from the last decade of the 19th century, advertising the "Great Venetian Festival" organized by "Le Sport", a "society promoting all sports" based at Amiens.
"Le Sport" must have later split into different clubs, including the rowing club "Sport Nautique d'Amiens" (website), which still uses arms similar to those shown on the poster (upper left part, under "Sport"), themselves based on the municipal arms of Amiens ("Gules an ivy argent a chief of France", shown under the flag pole on the poster).

The poster shows a flag, horizontally divided red-white-red-white-red, which is, undoubtedly, the flag of "Le Sport", since the rowers shown in the background wear a jersey with the same colour arrangement.
