Presentation of SOGESTRAN

SOGESTRAN was established on 1 October 1948 in Le Havre by Edmond Girardet (d. 1974). The company started with four employees and two river tankers of 200 t each, transporting oil on the Seine between Le Havre and Paris. In 1961, the company started to use towboats pushing two barges. Sogestran progressively diversified its activities, transporting cars (1963), cement stone on river Adour (1967), iron ore between Dunkirk and the Denain steelworks via the Dunkirk-Valenciennes canal (1969), coal on the Rhône (1975) and the Loire (1983).
SOGESTRAN merged in 1988 with Sanara to form the CFT (Compagnie Fluviale de Transport, website).
