About the Flag

The Beaconsfield town web page carries the following quote from the 26 January 2000 Beaconsfield Advertiser:

BEACONSFIELD will soon have a new symbol in place to celebrate the new century after councillors gave the go-ahead to purchase a town flag.

The flag will feature the town council symbol of a beech tree in green, on a plain cream background, with 'Beaconsfield' emblazoned underneath. The finance and general works committee agreed at Thursday s meeting to purchase a flag - and a spare at a cost of more than £200

Members debated whether the flag should be representative of the town council or Beaconsfield as a whole. Mayor Councillor Paul Henry said: "The flag should not just be for the town council, but be available for other organisations as well."

Finance chairman Les Davies added: "No one symbol represents Beaconsfield, so we need to keep it simple." The flag was originally suggested by residents at a town council meeting last year, with the idea pursued by the mayor.

Councillors agreed it will be flown every other Thursday to indicate a town council meeting is in session, and would be loaned to other organisations to represent the town, including the Beaconsfield Twinning Association and Rotary Club.

The union flag and flag of St George will continue to be flown on holidays and feast days.
