Sheffield United FC, commonly known as 'The Blades' with reference to the tradition of cutlery manufacturing in Sheffield, has neither a formal nor an informal flag, according to http://www.krysstal.com/club_sheffunited.html. The club logo consists of a circular format with a thick red outer ring bordered white internally. At the top of this circle are the words 'SHEFFIELD UNITED F.C.' in white block letters, and the date '1889' is similarly written at the bottom. The central image is black, and depicts two white scimitars crossed at the hilt at the bottom of the image, with a White Rose of Yorkshire at the top. The symbolism likewise refers to Sheffield as a traditional center of sword and knife making.
