One of my Black Country town flags, Finchfield, has been officially adopted and registered with the UK Flag Institute. This is for the village of Finchfield which is just to the west of Wolverhampton.
I should probably say something about the adoption process. After seeing some
of my designs in the local newspaper the Finchfield Community Association got in
touch with me. I was invited to two of the local schools to talk to the children
about local history and the principles of flag design. The children were then
given homework to design flags for Finchfield and to get their families and
friends at home involved. The community association then empowered me to take
the best visual and thematic ideas and draft them up to the same standard,
resulting in several designs that could then be put to a public vote.
