22 November 1881. Requested title royal. Established within last few weeks. 53 yachts, 6,917 tons. Matter very pressing. Have also requested Admiralty Warrant. ‘Royal’ approved 24 November 1881.

Burgee

The Dumpy Book of Ships and the Sea (1957) shows the burgee blue with a white saltire with a crown at its centre.

 I have seen the burgee illustrated in both dark blue and lighter blue. Additionally, I have seen it illustrated with the Scottish crown and St. Edward's crown. Thus far though, the only actual burgee photo images I have seen show burgees only with the St. Edward's crown. And, they are all dark blue. The variants are shown below.
