Overview

Paamiut, in Danish Frederikshab, is a municipality of the West Greenland (Kitaa), including the villages of Narsalik and Arsuk. Its official name is "Paamiut Kommunea". The banner is white with two bright blue birds. For further information, see <www.paamiut.gl>.

I found an image of what could be a flag of Paamiut flying in front of the town-hall at <www.paamiut.gl>.

I recently researched municipal flags in Greenland by correspondence with municipal authorities in Greenland. The results have just been published in the Fall 2005 issue of Nordisk Flaggkontakt, the journal of the Nordic Flag Society [joe05].
I managed to get confirmation from 15 of 18 municipalities all using the same flag model - the coat of arms on a white field (the colour white carries no symbolism). Paamiut is one of them. I recieved a photo of a real flag, proportions 2:3, the arms measuring about 4/5 of the hoist.

Coat of Arms

The Coat of Arms, according to Aachen's 1982 book [ach82], as quoted in <www.ngw.nl>, says that the birds are greenlandic sea eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla?) and that these arms were adopted in 1975. My blazon: argent, two eagles azure displayed in pale.
