Presentation of Cephalonia

The municipality of Cephalonia (35,801 inhabitants in 2011; 78,100 ha) was formed in the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities of Argostoli (Αργοστόλι,12,589 inh.), Paliki (Παλική, 7,836 inh.), Sami (Σάμη, 2,895 inh.), Erisos (Έρισος, 1,963 inh.), Eleios-Pronnoi (Ελειός-Πρόννοι, 3,840 inh.), Leivathos (Λειβαθώ, 4,663 inh.), Omala (Ομαλά, 1,053 inh.) and Pylaros (Πύλαρος, 1,565 inh.).

Former municipality of Argostoli

Argostoli has been the capital and administrative centre of Cephalonia since 1757.
Its flag (Kokkonis website) was white with the municipal emblem, the name of the municipality above in a semi-circle, and the name of the island beneath.

Sami is located on the central east coast of the island.
Its flag (Kokkonis website) was blue with the municipal emblem, featuring letter Σ in a wreath.
