Portuguese era municipal flag

Bissau former flag image by António Martins, 4 August 2004

Gabu/Gabú, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gab%C3%BA, was officially known as Nova Lamego until 1975 (cf. Lamego) and was granted a Portuguese-style municipal coat of arms and flag in the 1960s. These can be seen, scanned from the same commemorative postcard, at Ralf's website, http://www.ngw.nl/int/afr/novalame.htm, and in the Wikimedia Commons, http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bandeira_Gabu.PNG. In the later location, uploader Emerson states that this flag "may be still in use". Based on what I know of Portuguese former colonies’ municipal flags, I’d say that is highly unlikely.

The flag was quartered (town status) white and black with the coat of arms on the center. This was Gules a sword Argent hilted Or upright between two machetes samewise and on a bordure Argent four crescents Gules pointing upwards and four escutcheons Azure charged each with five plates; mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading "VILA DE NOVA LAMEGO" in black capitals.
