Goričan is located 20 km east of Čakovec. Population is 3,150.
Today the place is best known as being the site of the most important border crossing towards Hungary, the new highway being also the main road toward most of Eastern Europe. The Hungarian side of the border crossing is Letenye.
Željko Heimer, 15 July 2006
The symbols of Goričan are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Goričan, adopted on 3 February 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 4 February 2006 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Međimurske županije, No. 1.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Gules a mount issuant from the base vert and in the chief argent three forget-me-not azure seeded or".
The arms are canting: the place name suggests it to be on a higher ground, here a hill.
