The municipality of Selnica (3,442 inhabitants in 2001, 1,206 in the village of Selnica) is located some 15 km north-west of Čakovec.

The symbols of Selnica are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi te utvrđivanju mjerila za uporabu grba i zastave Općine Selnica, adopted on 21 February 2014 by the Municipality Assembly and published the same day in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Međimurske županije, No. 2 (text). The Decision was soon amnded, in procedural details, by Odluka o izmjenama i dopunama Odluke o grbu i zastavi te utvrđivanju mjerila za uporabu grba i zastave Općine Selnica, adopted on 28 March 2014 and published on 9 April in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Međimurske županije, No. 4 (text).
The symbols were desgined by Daniel Hampamer, who already designed the previous symbols of Selnica and is also the designer of several other municipal symbols in the County.
The flag is prescribed in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle. The flags in actual use (photo, photo) are displayed vertically, without the yellow border around the coat of arms.

The coat of arms is prescribed in Article 4 of the Deicsion as:
The coat of arms of the Municipality of Selnica is of the following design: in a blue field on a green ground, a white, standing winged lion with a yellow nimbus holds a yellow oil tower, expressing the Selnica oil field being one of the oldest in the world while indeed the oil deposits contributed to the development of the Municipality of Selnica.
The winged lion refers to St. Mark, the municipality's patron saint.
During the session of the Municipality Assembly held on 13
September 2013 (minutes), Mayor Ervin Vičević reported that the first blue coat of arms had not been approved by the Ministry and that a new, "red design" had been adopted in 2005 - and that it had been "pasted on the wall" (that is, displayed in the Municipality Hall). Vičević also stated that the design had been approved by the State Archives, and called for voting for continuing the process with the 2005 design or for finding another solution. Some Councillors were eager to find a stronger "connection with the municipality". At the time, the Assembly decided (10 for, 2 abstentions) to go with that same design. The chair also called for anyone with ideas (for the inclusion of the "connection") to come forward at any time.
Apparently, someone eventually figured out how to make the "connection" and remembered that Selnica is known for its long tradition of oil extraction. The text of the eventual Decision even claims it in the blazon that the oil fields of Selnica are "some of the oldest in the world". The new design was again made by Daniel Hampamer.
During next session, held on 15 November 2013 (minutes), the Mayor only reported that "it
was agreed that the coat of arms shall include an oil tripod"
(it seems that the "agreement" was between the
designer, the Ministry commission and the Mayor). No
objections were recorded, so that the formal adoption followed soon.

A new coat of arms was dopted in April 2005, again design by Daniel Hampamer, and, again, not published in any official gazette. The new design was ocassionally used, like in the poster for the celebration of St. Mark's Day 2007, the community festival; it was also used as the favicon for the municipal website.
The coat of arms is "Gules bordered or on a base vert a winged lion or holding a book". A flag was presumably adopted with it, which would be blue with the coat of arms in the centre.

The first symbols of Selnica were adopted in June 2004 (Lav u grbu, Međimurje županijsk novine, 6 July 2004) and publicly used for the first time on 23 April 2005 during the St. Mark's Day celebration (U očekivanju Markova - Dana Općine Selnica, Međimurje županijsk novine, 19 April 2005).
The symbols, designed by Daniel Hampamer, also the designer of several other municipal symbols in the County, were not approved by the Ministry.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
The coat of arms is "Azure a lion winged passant or holding with front paws an open book inscribed 1334". The emblem symbolizes the patron saint of the municipality, St. Mark. The date refers to the year when the parish was established.
