The symbols of Gola are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Gola, adopted on 28 September 1995 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 16 October 1995 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Županije Koprivnicko-križevacke, No. 11. Decision Odluka o izmjeni Odluke o grbu i zastavi Općine Gola, adopted on 13 February 1996 and published on 14 March 1996 in Službeni glasnik Županije Koprivnicko-križevacke, No. 1, amends the previous one, so that the description of the coat of arms does no state any more that the leaf is set "somewhat slanted", but that does not change the design. It also changes some penal prescriptions.
The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Statute Općine Gola, adopted on 25 September 2001 and published on 28 September 2001 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 10. This is repeated in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Gola, adopted on 4 April 2005 and published on 12 May 2005 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 5, in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Gola, adopted on 16 January 2006 and published on 26 January 2006 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 1, in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Gola, adopted on 30 June 2009 and published on 15 July 2009 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 9, and in the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Gola, adopted on 28 March 2013 and published on 29 May 2013 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 9 (text).
Decision Odluka o osnivanju Komisije za utvrđivanje uvjeta i raspisivanje natjeĐaja za izradu idejnog rješenja grba i zastave Općine Gola, adopted on 9 March 1995 and published on 24 April 1995 in Službeni glasnik Županije Koprivnicko-križevacke, No. 3, appointed a commission to run the public contest for the symbols. The nine-member Commission, chaired by Stanislav Salaj, included Pr. Dr. Dragutin Feletar, the historian Hrvoje Petrić, the painter Ivan Večenaj and others. The prizes were established as 3,000 HRK for the first prize and 2,000 HRK for the second prize.
The symbols, designed by Mladen Večena, a famous naive painter from Gola, were approved by the Ministry of Administration on 18 January 1996, as reported by D. Ernečić [erc03].
The symbols were first used on 13 June 1996 in the celebration of the municipal day (St. Anthony's Day) celebrations. The symbols were consacrated in the Three Wise Men church by priest Ferek from Đurđevci, who concelebrated a mass with other priests from the region (Glas Podravine, 21 June 1996).
The flag is described in Article 7 of the Decision as follows:
The Municipality of Gola has its flag, coloured green (proportions 1:2). The coat of arms is set in the middle of the flag.

The coat of arms is described in Article 6 of the Decision as follows:
The coat of arms of the Municipality of Gola is composed of a green shield bordered with a wide yellow (golden) outline. In the middle of the shield it set, somewhat slanted, an white (silver) oak leaf.
The oak leaf symbolizes the territory of the Municipality of Gola, edged with the State border and river Drava. The green colour of the shield and the yellow border symbolize our woods, meadows and wheat fields.
Gola is one of the rare places where Croatia spreads on the other side of the Drava on its course between Međimurje and Baranja.

The flag of the Gola Women's Society, a cultural association, was designed by Mladen Večena, including a checky heart and a rosary (Glas Podravine, 5 September 1997).
