Flag of Desinić

The flag of Desinić (photo) appears to be in proportions 1:2, pale blue with the municipal coat of arms in the middle.

It seems that the municipality decided to use the symbols informally, thus skipping the need to get them approved by the central authorities - which would hardly approve such design for at least two or three reasons - St. George is already used by number of municipalities (first come first served principle), the shield shape is not among those preferred by the central authorities, and the flag's colour is not one of the five permitted.

Former symbols of Desinić

The former symbols of Desinić were prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Desinić, adopted on 25 January 1994 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 25 February 1994 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Županije Krapinsko-zagorske, No. 2.
It is prescribed that the start of the use of the symbols shall be after approval by the Ministry, which never happened, as far as I am aware. The symbols were, apparently, in at least limited use, nevertheless.

The flag is prescribed as follows.

... composed of three fields of different colours and the coat of arms in the centre of the flag. The colours of the flag are derived from the coat of arms. The first field is red, symbolizing warmth and philanthropy. The second field is white symbolzing purity. The third field is green, symbolizing the town of Desinić, full of vegetation.

The flag description is ambiguous - it does not state how the three fields are ordered on the flag. My assumption is that these are the horizontal stripes; however, without confirmation my drawing should be considered a reconstruction only.

The coat of arms is prescribed as follows.

... a shield coloured red and white with a green hill and the Veliki Tabor fortres as the unique symbol by which the town of Desinić is known. The colours are: red, white and green.
