The municipality of Krapinske Toplice (5,744 inhabitants in 2001, 1,317 in the village of Krapinske Toplice) is situated some 30 km north of Zagreb, about 5 km south (west) of Krapina.
As the name "Toplice" suggests it, this is the site of a thermal spa, one of the most reknown in Croatia. It is also the site of a heart hospital, which is considered today amongst the leading in the wider region. These characteristics are reflected in the former coat of arms of the municipality.
Željko Heimer, 22 June 2004
The symbols of Krapinske Toplice are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Krapinske Toplice, adopted by the Municipality Assembly on 14 December 2007 and published on 18 December 2007 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 20. The Decision was amended by Odluka o izmjenama Odluke o grbu i zastavi Općine Krapinske Toplice, adopted on 23 December 2009 and published on 28 December 2009 in Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 35 (text).
The flag is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The former symbols of Krapinske Toplice are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Krapinske Toplice, adopted by the Municipality Assembly on 18 July 1994 and published on 21 July 1994 in Službeni glasnik Županije Krapinsko-zagorske, No. 16.
The flag is prescribed as "... of rectangular shape, coloured blue, in its centre the coat of arms."
Decision Odluka o dopuni Odluke o grbu i zastavi Općine Krapinske Toplice, adopted on 6 December 1994 and published on 29 December 1994 in Službeni glasnik Županije Krapinsko-zagorske, No. 29, adds precisions to the description of the flag: "... in proportions 1:2, sized 1.5m x 3.0 m". Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Krapinske Toplice, adopted on 26 March 1997 and published on 14 April 1997 in Službeni glasnik Županije Krapinsko-zagorske, No. 2, readopts the symbols. The flag is now as described before, with the addition of sentence "Ratio of the width to length of the flag 1:2, sized 1.5 m x 3 m."
The coat of arms is prescribed as follows:
In Baroque shield (partly stylized) coloured white, bordered with a red line, in the centre of it a stylized blue heart-fountain.
The coat of arms is based on a coat of arms (from a previous period) on which a fountain is raising from a vat (bucket). The fountain is stylized in the shape of the "Licitar heart" [a gingerbread craft product, listed since 2010 in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage], one of the "unofficial" symbols of Croatian Zagorje. The fountain symbolizes healing and cure.
The second paragraph ("literary description") was removed from the 1997 description, leaving only the "heraldic description".
The flag was in use on the Municipality Hall but was most probably not approved by the Ministry Commission, this particular design being on the very edge of the graphical principles taken up by the Commission.
