Presentation of Kumrovec

The municipality of Kumrovec is situated some 30 km north-west of Zagreb, 20 km south-west of Krapina on the bank of river Sutla forming the border with Slovenia.
In 1992 the region was made part of the municipality of Tuhelj, from which Kumrovec seceeded in 1997.

Kumrovec has two important historical places. The one by which it is most reknown is the birth house of Marshal Tito, that is still being a tourist attraction, these days mostly on 25 May, the traditional Tito's birthday, and 4 May, the day of his death. During the Socialist period near Tito's house was gradually formed an ethnological park-museum that gathers the traditional houses and way of life in the region; the museum is among the prestigious European museums, as few years ago it received the annual prize for the best in Europe. The ethnographical collection of the museum has given the source for the coat of arms.
The other historical site is a place on the bank of Sutla where the Croatian anthem was written. There was (in the 19th century?) erected a monument to the anthem and its writer Antun Mihanović. The monument was featured in the previous coat of arms of Tuhelj, but this was changed since Kumrovec sceeded from it.

Flag of Kumrovec

The symbols of Kumrovec are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Kumrovec, adopted on 8 October 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 5 November 2001 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 15, though probably adopted earlier.
This is repeated in the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Kumrovec, adopted on 9 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 20 July 2009 in Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 15 (text).

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms of Kumrovec is "Per bend gules and argent in spades line". The design is frequent in folk art of the region, especially in woodwork.
The Municipality Statutes include the statement that this is the historical coat of arms of the municipality, which it could not be at all.
