Flag of Barban

The flag of Barban is prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Barban, adopted on 28 November 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 29 November 2006 in the Municipality official gazette Službene novine Općine Barban, No. 10.
The symbols were approved by the Central State Office for Administration on 3 May 2006.
The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Barban, adopted on 30 July 2009 and published in Službene novine Općine Barban.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, divided into 5 x 10 "modular units", red with the coat of arms placed one unit from the top, bottom and hoist flag's edges.

The coat of arms was adopted in 2004, although no formal adoption Decision was issued in the official gazette, waiting for the approval.

The coat of arms is "Or a bar vert in chief three beards sable and in base a bridge gules over water azure".
The arms are canting since a beard is called locally barbe. The connection of the name of Barban with a beard is probably a case of popular etymology. According to R. Matijašić (Antičko naslijedje u toponimiji Istre), the name of the town originates in the name of the ancient Roman family Parpanus.
