Presentation of Funtana

Funtana (Italian, Fontane) is located between Poreč and Vrsar, around the bay known as the Green Lagoon (Zelena laguna). It has just under 1,000 inhabitants, in a single settlement of the same name.
The municipality was formed in 2006 by secession from the municipality of Vrsar.

Flag of Funtana

The symbols of Funtana are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Funtana - Fontane, adopted on 17 August 2010 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 18 August 2010 in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Funtana, No. 7 (text).
The symbols were approved by the Ministry of Administration on 2 June 2010.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure a water argent springing from a fountain or". The arms are canting, the fountain recalling the name of the municipality. Obviously, it is not a heraldic fountain.

A proposal that was being considered in 2009 showed a spring held by two hands; this design did not pass the procedure in the Municipality Assembly, where the delegates objected to the hands in the design (Glas Istre, 30 October 2009).

The ceremonial flag is a blue gonfalon ending triangularly with a golden fringe, with the coat of arms bordered yellow in the centre of it, the name of the municipality in three rows above it, the top row in an arch: "OPĆINA / FUNTANA / FONTANE" and the branches of olive and grapevine below.

Beforehand, Funtana has been using since its establishment the historical coat of arms of the Borisi family, as preserved on their castle in the town, depicted in gold with black figures. The same symbols were also used in the emblem of various local organizations, such as the tourist board and the local football club (Glas Istre, 30 October 2009).
