The municipality of Baška (1,554 inhabitants in 2001, 901 in the village of Baška) is located on the southern end of the island of Krk. It was an important place in the early Croatian history; the Baška tablet (Bašcanska ploca), the oldest stone monument inscribed in Croatian language (in Glagolitic script) is preserved there.
Željko Heimer, 1 July 2003
The symbols of Baška are prescribed by Decision Odluka o izmjeni i dopuni Odluke o grbu i zastavi Općine Baška, adopted on 2 April 1997 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 11 April 1997 in the County official gazette Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 7.
The Decision only changed the coat of arms used in the former symbols.
The Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Baška, adopted on 7 September 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 21 September 2001 in Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 21, describe the symbols. The description is repeated in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Baška, adopted on 15 January 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 26 January 2006 in Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 3, and in the current Statutes Statut Općine Baška, adopted on 15 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 24 July 2009 in Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 28.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

Coat of arms of Baška - Image by Željko Heimer, 9 May 2013
The coat of arms pictures St. John, the patron saint of Baška.
In the original coat of arms, the saint helds his right hand raised in blessing with three fingers stretched. A similar handsign was used by extremist Serbs in Croatia in the 1990s, so this was changed to a more neutral position. I suppose that the change was made after a suggestion from the Ministry of Administration.

The floral ornament taken from the Baška tablet is shown on the flag.
