Presentation of Lopar

Lopar was established as a Municipality in 2006 by secession from the Town of Rab. It is the actual birth place of St. Marin, known as the founder of the Republic of San Marino; Rab is claiming the same thing, being the closest town to the place. Both claims are probably equally valid.

The symbols of Lopar (images, p. 32) were publicly unvealed on 8 September 2008 in a ceremonial session of the Municipal Assembly celebrating the Day of the Municipality.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag (photo) is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms depicts St. Marin, the founder of the oldest republic in the world, San Marino, with his stone-cutting tools and two silver-white flowers symbolizing the widely known tomatoes and potatoes of Lopar (Novi list, 7 September 2008).
