Flag of Slavonski Brod

The symbols of Slavonski Brod are prescribed by Decision Odluka o izmjeni i dopuni Statuta grada Slavonskog Broda, adopted on 14 July 1995 by the Town Assembly and published on 25 August 1995 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Županije brodsko-posavske, No. 9. This amends the previous Decision and design of the symbols, probably upon request by the Heraldry Commission of the Ministry of Administration.
The Town Statutes were amended accordingly by Statutory Decision Odluka o izmjeni i dopuni Odluke o opisu i načinu uporabe grba i zastave grada Slavonskoga Broda, adopted on 14 July 1995 by the Town Assembly and published on 25 August 1995 in Službeni vjesnik Županije brodsko-posavske, No. 9. The new Town Statutes Statut grada Slavonskog Broda, adopted on 5 December 2001 by the Town Assembly and published on 14 December 2001 in Službeni vjesnik Županije brodsko-posavske, No. 14, basically repeat the previous amended Statutes regarding the symbols. The blazon of the coat of arms, however, is slightly amended, probably following the wording in the approval by the central authorities. Interestingly, the wavy bar is here also now not explicitly mentioned to be wavy.

The flag of the Town of Slavonski Brod is made in proportions 1:2, and for hoisting on a mast, in proportions 2:6. The flag is white, that is, in the colour of natural silk. The coat of arms of the Town of Slavonski Brod is in the middle. The ceremonial flag of the Town is in proportions 1:2 made of natural silk, doubled with straight edges without border (fringe), with the coat of arms made of silk combined with embroidery or embroidered in gold.
The ways and conditions of the usage of the coat of arms and the flag of the Town are determined by a special Decision according to the Law.

Quoting the Slavonski Brod on line website (page no longer available):

The coat of arms is in shape of semi-circular shield, Azure over a wavy bar argent a heron holding a fish in the beak and a scroll in dexter leg all or. Above it in dexter a crescent argent, in sinister five six-pointed stars in two rows (3:2) or. If the coat of arms is used with the name of the town, the text is inscribed in arch under the lower edge of the shield.

Slavonski Brod was granted a coat of arms in the late 18th century or early 19th century, certainly before 1820; this was basically the same as the one used today.

The former symbols of Slavonski Brod are prescribed by Decision Odluka o opisu i načinu uporabe grba i zastave grada Slavonskoga Broda, adopted on 7 February 1994 by the Town Assembly and published on 25 February 1994 in Službeni vjesnik Županije brodsko-posavske, No. 1. The Town Statutes Statut Grada Slavonskog Broda, adopted on 30 March 1994 by the Town Assembly and published on 15 April 1994 in Službeni vjesnik Županije brodsko-posavske, No. 2, repeats the wording of the Decision.

The coat of arms, and, thus, the flag is somewhat different from the subsequently approved design. The wavy bar is light blue, while the crescent is golden yellow, like the other charges. The flag is prescribed for vertical hoisting, either in 1:2 or 1:3 proportions, with the coat of arms offset towards the top. The ceremonial flag is prescribed as a fringed flag in proportions 1:2.
