The municipality of Kijevo (532 inhabitants in 2001), is located 50 km north-east of Šibenik. The Croats formed a community (župa) in Kijevo as soon as they reached the region, mentioned already in 777, within the Livno County.

Flag of Kijevo

The symbols of Kijevo are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Kijevo, adopted on 1 August 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 14 August 2001 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Šibensko-kninske županije, No. 5 (with drawings of the symbols). This is repeated in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Kijevo, adopted on 13 March 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 5 April 2006 in Službeni vjesnik Šibensko-kninske županije, No. 5.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure a ruined church or".
The church is the St. Saviour (Sveti Spas) church, from the 9th century, with the oldest remaining belfry in Croatia, showing the Frankish influence on the christianization of Croats.
The church is described as "yellow-golden" in the 2001 Statutes and as "yellow-green" in the 2006 Statutes.
An almost identical coat of arms ("Gules a ruined church argent"), picturing the same church, is used by the neighbouring municipality of Vrlika.
