Flag of Selca

The symbols of Selca are prescribed by Decision Odluka o donošenju grba i zastave Općine Selca, adopted on 22 November 2004 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 7 December 2004 in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Selca, No. 4 (text).
The Decision was corrected by Ispravak Odluke donošenja grba i zastave Općine Selca, published on 8 March 2005 in Službeni glasnik Općine Selca, No. 1 (text).
The symbols were approved by the Central State Office for Administration on 2 June 2005.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure a hoe and a hammer both or in saltire in front of an anchor argent".
The anchor is a clear reference to maritime traditions, the hoe to agriculture that was the main source of income in the island while the hammer represents the stone mason's hammers; Brac is the source of the most valued white stone, that has been traditionally extracted in the island even since the pre-Roman times.

In the 2004 Decision, the tools on the coat of arms are described with "white handles", which was subsequently corrected to "yellow handles".
It is not clear whether this was a genuine correction of a misprint or if the change was made after the intervention or consultation with the central authorities' heraldry commission. We may never know, and the symbols with white handles might have never been in use.
