The Town of Županja (16,383 inhabitants in 2001, 13,775 in the town of Županja proper) is located 30 km south-west Vukovar, on river Sava.

The symbols of Županja are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi grada Županja, adopted on 30 June 1993 by the Town Assembly and published on 24 November 1993 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Županije Vukovarsko-srijemske , No. 5.
The symbols are described in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Županje, adopted on 31 March 1994 by the Town Assembly and published on 29 April 1994 in Službeni vjesnik Županije Vukovarsko-srijemske, No. 5.
This is repeated in the Town Status Statut Grada Županje, adopted on 10 October 2001 by the Town Assembly and published in Službeni vjesnik Vukovarsko-srijemske županije, No. 9, and in the current Town Statutes Statut Grada Županje, adopted on 19 June 2009 by the Town Assembly and published in Službeni vjesnik Vukovarsko-srijemske županije.

The symbols were designed by Ivan Herman, an academic painter from Županja.

The flag is in proportions 2:1, white and light-blue bicolor, vertically hoisted with the coat of arms set slightly towards the flag's top.
The flag dimensions are 100 x 200 cm. The coat of arms is 50 cm from top, in dimensions 50 x 30 cm, being 35 cm from each vertical edge.
The horizontal version of the flag is not prescribed, but in some occasions it is obviously used (photo), opposite to what we may expect: the blue stripe is used over the white, and the coat of arms is rotated as for vertical hoisting.

As reported in the minutes of the 13th session of the town Assembly held on 18 April 2007, the Assembly discussed on the Decision of the coat of arms and the flag. I suspect it may be regarding the adoption of some new symbols, as these are far from conforming with the State regulations regarding the municipal symbols.

The coat of arms is quartered in three, the first one with the Croatian checky field with the Church of Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist, the second white with a yellow and green oak leaf between two stumps. The base is divided by a triple wattle, the blue field with the golden plough and issuing from the bottom a golden ornament from the folk costumes. In the blue ribbon above is white inscription of the name of the town.
The church was built in 1800 on the site of a previous wooden church. The stumps (Croatian, panj) recall the town's name, recalling the stumps left there after the clearing of the oak woods to make space for the town in the 17th century.
