Presentation of Klenovnik

The Municipality of Klenovnik is located some 20 km west of Varaždin. It has 2,278 inhabitants according to the 2001 census, 1,051 living in the village of Klenovnik proper.
The biggest castle in Croatia, owned by the influential Drašković family, was built there in the 17th century, today serving as a hospital. The name of the municipality means, more or less, "a maple groove", or, more specifically, "a field maple groove", the field maple being Acer campestre, known in America as the hedge maple, in Croatian, klen.
