The Flag

One of the places I visited is the city of Kecskemet ('cs' is read like 'ch' in 'church', each 'e' is read just as you wouldn't even try to pronounce). Kecskemet is the town in south-east Hungary, and as in many Hungarian towns, the coats of arms are visible wherever you look, especially in the old part of town. The municipality building if full of coats of arms all around the facades (and look very monumental, in similar style as the Hungarian Parliament building, of couse, smaller). Above the main entrance there was hoisted the flag of the city - RWR vertical triband with coats of arms in the middle: Gules, on a cinquetuple mount Vert a goat rampant proper. Crowned with St. Stephen's crown. The flag must have been introduced after 1990 and downfall of communism (or at least reintroduced), since the communist era coats of arms is also visible on several places in the main square.

Adopted by Res. No.24/1995. (X. 16.) of Kecskemet City, Hungary which  modified the original Res. No. 24/1991. (VIII. 29.) in Hungarian at <www.kecskemet.hu>. You can see the ceremonial coats of arms of the city.

Kecskemét is the one settlement which uses its original coat of arms also in 1974-1989 with small modification as seen in the 1974-1989 Flag. Kecskemét's ceremonial flag is with the ceremonial coat of arms. and gold fringes on the three edges.

Red, white and red vertical triband. This flag appears at Dr. Széll Sándor: Városaink neve, címere és lobogója (1941) as "Kecskemét, Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun Co.". The same flag (but with the coat of arms) is the current flag of the city.

Coat of Arms

Here is the coat of arms of the city as sent by the Clerk of Kecskemét City. You can see the ceremonial coat of arms on the pages of Kecskemét at <www.kecskemet.hu>. The old seal and a baroque style coat of arms are at <www.kecskemet.hu/tortenet.html>. There are three hills in the Coat of Arms. Triplicate hill relates to the Hungarian coat of arms.
