Monostorapáti is a village in Veszprém county, Hungary on
the Veszprém-Tapolca road. Neighbouring settlements are: Sáska,
Hegyesd, Szentbékálla, Balatonhenye, Kapolcs and
Taliándörögd villages. The settlement has got 1115 inhabitants
(97.9% Hungarians; 2001 census). The name of the village: Monostor means monastery, apáti means abbey - see the
coat of arms. The
coat of arms relates to the agriculture the vineyards, the forest and the
Eger Brook too.
The first mention of the village and the abbey is from 1127 as
'ALMAD' The name of the village - Monostorapáti used at
first in 1468. The village was part of Zala county till 1950.
