The image above shows several flags are marked as representing different islands or regions in the Indonesian archipelago. Most of them seem novel creations but as the flag of the South Moluccas and West Papua are included and they are overlaid over what seems to be a rally for West Papua, these are presumably intended to signify further separatist agendas.

It appears that at least two of the six flags on the photograph are, in fact, the flags of known separatist groups. The first flag on the left (red with blue, white, and green vertical stripes at the hoist) is the flag of the Republik Maluk Selatan, a state that declared its independence in 1950 concurrent with the creation of a singular Indonesia. Likewise, the third flag from the left (blue and white horizontal stripes, red vertical bar at the hoist charged with a white star) is "the flag of the main West Papuan separatist movement opposed to Indonesian rule".

It makes me wonder, considering the nature of the rally at which the photo was taken and the fact that two flags have already been confirmed
as flags of separatist movements, are the other four also representing separatist movements in Indonesia? More research is obviously required, but I wanted to pass on the tidbits that I'd discovered in relation to this interesting southeast Asian puzzle.
