Description

Local Council Bet Dagan is named after an ancient city that was located in the area of the tribe of Juda. Its strategic position just next to the junction of the (old) main road Jaffa - Jerusalem and the road to Rishon LeZion, Rehovot and to the south, made it a battle zone during the Independence War. After the paving of highways 1 (to Jerusalem) and highway 4 (to the South), its lost its importance and the currant small town (est. 1948, Local Council since 1953) have only 5,000 inh. The junction is still there (and still there are the traffic jams in the mornings) as well the Mandate era police fort which saw many battles in 1948 (now used by the Highway Police). Next to it you may find also the main meteorological station of Israel.
I visited this town twice and didn't saw any flag. I saw the emblem which was never published .
To my aid came today sport section of the daily Yedioth Akharonot, which, as any Thursday, had a piece of an unknown team from the lower leagues. This time the piece was about "Bet Dagan Municipal F.C" of the 5th league, and in the photo there were the players with three the Local Council flag which is green emblem on Yellow.

The Volcani Center, located in Bet Dagan and belonging to ARO (Agriculture Research Organization), is a world-renowned research center. I guess that the meteorological station is operated by Volcani.

No. The Agriculture Center is named after Yitzhak Elazeri-Vulcani, one of the first agriculture researchers and the founder of an agriculture research station in Tel-Aviv in 1921 which became in 1940 into the Hebrew University's Faculty of Agriculture (now situated in Rehovot).
