Overview

I also found out at the end of last year that there is another new 'energy' organization, IRENA. With headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organisation for promoting the adoption of renewable energy worldwide. The European Union and 148 countries are Signatories and 65 countries already ratified the Statute. The organization will take its form as an international organization this April. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was officially established in Bonn on January 26 2009. At the Founding Conference 75 States from all over the world signed the Agency's Statute. The founding of IRENA was preceded by several meetings that paved the way for establishing the Agency.
I assume at some point they will adopt a flag.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was officially established in Bonn on 26 January 2009. 148 states and the European Union signed the Statute of the Agency, amongst them are 48 African, 38 European, 35 Asian, 17 American and 10 Australia/Oceania States.
Mandated by these governments worldwide, IRENA promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms or renewable energy. Acting as the global voice for renewable energies, IRENA facilitate access to all relevant renewable energy information, including technical data, economic data and renewable resource potential data. IRENA share experiences on best practices and lessons learned regarding policy frameworks, capacity-building projects, available finance mechanisms and renewable energy related energy efficiency measures.
With the establishment of the Preparatory Commission, the Agency began work the day after the Founding Conference on 27 January 2009. The Preparatory Commission consists of IRENA's Signatory States and acts as the interim body during the founding period. The Commission will be dissolved after entry into force of the Statute, which will occur upon the 25th deposit of an instrument of ratification and the first Assembly is held. The Agency will then consist of an Assembly, a Council, and a Secretariat.

The Flag

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has a new logo and flag, both were approved on 05 April 2011 during the fifth session of the Preparatory Commission and the first session of the IRENA Assembly in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

"Adnan Amin, Director-General of IRENA, explained that the Preparatory Commission engaged a professional designer to create a logo for the Agency. He said the proposed logo aimed to represent the infinite nature of renewable energy and its worldwide scope. He also noted that a new blue color was proposed. The Assembly approved the new logo and color by consensus."

Perhaps they have a flag already. See attached picture with desk flag.

It looks like "IRENA" in capital red letters in what looks like Arial font on plain white. Here is the photo link:

This might be a temporary symbol, or not. But since it is not a UN specialized agency, it makes sense that it is not using the standard white logo on UN blue.

Beside the table flag there are two more flags used by IRENA.
The logo (possibly used on flags) is red letters of IRENA and its full name in grey. The Preparatory Commission uses a similar flag but with its title above the logo with black letters.

The fourth prepatory commission was held 24-25 Oct 2010. The first session of the new IRENA assembly and the election of a secretary-general will take place on 4-5 April 2011.
The IRENA Statute entered into force on 8 July 2010.
"July 8, 2010 IRENA's statute enters into force
The International Renewable Energy Agency becomes a fully fledged International Organization. Created in January 2009 with 75 Member States, IRENA has grown in just over a year to become one of the largest international organizations. 147 countries and the European Union already signed its statute.
The 25th instrument of ratification was deposited in Berlin on June 8th and according to Article XIX, the treaty enters into force 30 days after. 29 Member States have now ratified the Treaty."

In June 2009, Abu Dhabi was elected as IRENA's Headquarters. The first international organization of the 21st century is also the first to be headquartered in the Gulf Region.
