the new flag I have designed and had made of the International Croquet
Federation. As Secretary-General, Fédération Européenne de Croquet, my
management committee asked me to obtain a flag. They thought it would be nice to
fly our own flag at tournaments we organise.
Based on our logo, I removed
the wording, and extended the background field to cover the whole flag, rather
than just a circle. Colours are intended to be similar to
the EU. The flag was first flown at the recent WCF-FEC European Team
Championships, Cheltenham, June 25th - 28th 2009.
The first design (for
the logo) had the ball morphing into a star in 6 stages - but it looked
dreadful! We kept the number of stars at 6, as this was the original EU flag,
and decided against continually amending the number of stars to reflect the
membership of either the FEC or the EU. The white parts are (obviously) a
croquet hoop and mallet. Whilst a ball in red or black would provide a nice
contrast, it would complicate printing. A blue ball would simply get lost in the
design. From a standard croquet set, that left us with a yellow ball -
coincidentally one of the colours of the EU flag.
