Principality of Filettino

The Communide di Filettino has declared independence and it's "an unrecognized principality (Principality of Filettino) located about 70 km east of Rome and about 30 km north of Frosinone". Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filettino

"There has been such an outcry by small towns across Italy at the government move to abolish local councils and merge them with larger towns that Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's coalition may be forced to backtrack. " (The move of merger between Filettino with Trevi sparked this independence movement)

So far, it has its own coat of arms (http://www.principatodifilettino.com/principato.jpg) and its own banknotes. No flag reported yet. For additional information go to:

The flag is seen on several photos on the web. It is golden (yellow) with the coat of arms centered. I reconstructed it (roughly) for the page of Filettino in the album "Europe To Be" Part II

However, I am not sure if these are the "principality" flags. First of all, the photos show the flag alongside the Italian flag: rather strange for an independentist flag, isn't it? Second, the website does sell (as merchandise) t-shirts with the arms, but no flags; also a bit strange. But finally, the photos do not clearly show the arms in the centre: to me, it looks slightly more like the official municipal arms and not the "principality" arms; the photos are not clear enough to decide the question.

The photos, although not very clear, show the wreath around the shield of the coat of arms. The municipal arms don't have a wreath. By not trying to sell the flags, they, perhaps, are implying it is not a serious attempt at independence, and by displaying the Italian flag alongside their own they show they are not dead-set on leaving Italy. In my opinion, the whole affair is about gaining some publicity and, perhaps, influence the backtracking of the proposed legislation. It is really hard to believe they are very serious about all this commotion. Just a stunt.
